Three big reasons to buy the print edition of The Register Citizen are coming your way over the next few days.
In tomorrow's paper, we will publish the "Manopause" gift guide to Father's Day.
In Friday's paper, we will publish a special section on Winsted's annual Laurel Festival, including photos of and information on all the contestants in the annual Laurel Queen pageant.
And in Tuesday's paper, there will be something worth far more than the 50-cent price tag. Inside copies of The Register Citizen that day will be a 44-page glossy magazine-style summer events guide to Northwest Connecticut and the Farmington Valley called "Every Town Has a Green." In addition to event listings for family activities throughout the summer, it contains articles about the history and attributes of the historic town greens throughout Litchfield County. It's a great piece to have sitting on your coffee table all summer as you plan your weekends.

The city of Torrington should be proud to be home to the Torrington Twisters and to have the opportunity to be offiliated with a collegiate league. It is a delight to watch the talent of college's most talented student athletes and to see them be recognized by major league scouts and for some, to be drafted. The city of Torrington is blessed to have Fuessnich Park and if Torrington is willing to work with the new owners of the Twisters it could be a win-win situation for Torrington and the team. With the rising costs of running a team at this level, a break-even season could be attainable and the park could see improvements. The opportunity for many families to attend major league games is financially unattainble and these collegiate games give families a chance to enjoy baseball at a level higher than high school and local teams. It is encouraging to see so many fans embracing good clean fun and to see Fuessnich Park being used to its fullest potential. The Twisters give young boys a chance to witness the hard work and dedication it takes to become a collegiate player. The owners, manager,coaches and players are always approachable and willing to provide a great experience for our youth whether it is events at the games or through Twister's baseball clinics. Showing our youth something to strive for is invaluable. To Mayor Bingham and his staff, General Manager Kirk Fredrickson, Owners, Robin Wadsworth, Rita Hubner, David and Paula Tedham, Coach Gregg Hunt and his coaching staff and the many volunteers and team sponsors thank you for the hard work and dedication you have shown and for giving Torrington something to be proud of.
